MNREGA Rename News: An important decision related to rural employment has been taken in the meeting of the Union Cabinet on Friday, 12 December 2025. Now the name of Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MNREGA) has been changed to Pujya Bapu Rural Employment Scheme.
Along with this, the number of working days under the scheme has also been increased to 125 days. According to information received from media reports, the Central Government has also amended the minimum wage and has decided to increase it to Rs 240 per day. Let us know about these changes…..
The scheme was started under the name NREGA
This scheme was first started as National Rural Employment Guarantee Act 2005 (NREGA). Later, the then government changed its name to Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA).
After this it started being called MNREGA. Now the central BJP government has decided to make changes in it and call it Pujya Bapu Rural Employment Scheme. Besides, working days have also been extended.
What work is done in MNREGA?
The work provided under MNREGA is mostly labor based. These include construction of roads, activities related to water conservation, digging of ponds, gardening and many small and big works related to community development in villages. Talking about the benefits of this scheme, it has strengthened the economic condition of rural areas.
Besides, due to availability of work in the village, the income of the villagers has also become stable. Due to women getting work under this scheme, their participation has also increased significantly. Now the government’s decision to change the name and increase the working days will directly benefit the rural labourers. Due to increase in wages, their income will also increase.
