Patna. Caste enumeration is going on in Bihar since last 7th January. The entire process of caste and economic enumeration will be completed in two phases. While the first phase will run till January 21, the second phase will run from April 01 to April 30.

In the first phase, people’s houses are being listed, while in the second phase caste-based and economic enumeration will be done. For a long time there was a demand for caste census in many states of the country including Bihar. When the census was done in 2011, even then the report was prepared on the basis of caste. However, it was not released then. Before Bihar, caste census has also been done in Rajasthan and Karnataka.

A building can have more than one house

Iftekhar Shaheen, assistant teacher deputed as an enumerator for caste-based enumeration in Ward-70 of Patna, told that if there is more than one exit in a building, then the number of houses in it will be noted more than one. Apart from this, if there is more than one stove in the house, then the number of families will also be considered as more than one. He also told that there can be more than one house in a building. Presently the work of listing the houses is being done.

Separate signs for non-residential and residential

Supervisor Gopal Prasad told that different symbols for temple, road, rail etc. are used by the enumerator to show the place in the form. On the other hand, Enumerator Renu Kumari told that the signs of non-residential and residential houses are made separately in the form. Where the number is filled in the square of 6/6 in the residential houses, the square is filled in the form for the non-residential houses. Apart from this, the shape of a triangle is made for the kutcha houses and non-residential kutcha houses. For this the triangle is filled.

Counting of houses in the first phase

In the first phase, counting of people’s houses has been started. It started from 07 January itself, which will run till 21 January. Till now no number was given to the houses by the state government. There is a different number in the voter ID card, a different number in the holding of the municipal corporation. There is no numbering of houses at the panchayat level. In urban areas, even if there is numbering of houses in some mohallas, it has been given by the housing society and not by the government. Now numbers are being given to the houses at the government level. In this phase all the houses will be given permanent numbers.

Economic and caste census will be done in the second phase

Caste and economic census will be done in the second phase. In this people’s level of education, job (private, government, gazetted, non-gazetted etc.), vehicle (category), mobile, skill in which work, other means of income, how many earning members are there in the family, on one person How many dependents are there, original caste, sub-caste, sub-sub-caste, number of castes in the village, and questions related to caste certificate will be asked by the enumerator.
