New Delhi. There may soon be a big and important agreement between Canada and India regarding uranium. This agreement related to the supply of uranium is worth about 2.8 billion US dollars. Reuters has quoted a report by Globe and Mail as saying that both the countries have come very close to finalizing this deal. If this agreement is signed, Canadian company Cameco will supply uranium to India for the next ten years. However, India and Canada have not officially said anything regarding this uranium agreement.
It is noteworthy that during the recent G20 summit held in Johannesburg, South Africa, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi also met. Trade and strategic cooperation were discussed between the two leaders. The Indian government had said on Sunday that both the countries have agreed to restart the talks on a trade agreement that had been stalled for two years. Both the countries will negotiate for a high-level ‘Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement’ (CEPA), which aims to increase the trade between the two countries to $ 50 billion by 2030.
Big step towards nuclear cooperation
This possible partnership based on uranium is being considered as a new step towards comprehensive nuclear cooperation between the two countries. At present, the Government of India, Ministry of Commerce of India, Government of Canada and the Canadian Ministry of Trade have not made any official comment on this report. At the same time, Reuters has also not been able to independently confirm this complete information.
Relations between the two countries are improving
Trade talks between the two countries started in March 2022. But relations deteriorated in 2023 when Canada accused India of involvement in the killing of a Sikh separatist, which India vehemently rejected. After this the trade talks were stopped. Relations between India and Canada have started improving after Carney took over as Prime Minister.
