Leaving pulses completely is not good for health.

Dr. Amarendra Pathak, Vice Chairman of Urology Department of Sir Gangaram Hospital, New Delhi told StuffUnknown. That all pulses contain some amount of purines. When purine breaks down in our body, it forms uric acid. This is the reason why pulses are linked to uric acid. However, the amount of purine in all pulses is moderate and consuming it in limited quantity is not harmful. If you understand in simple language, purine is present in foods like moong dal, masoor dal, pigeon pea, gram dal, kidney beans and chickpeas, but this quantity is much less as compared to non-veg, red meat or alcohol. Therefore pulses are safe in small quantities.
Does eating too many pulses increase uric acid?
Dr. Amarendra Pathak told that if a person eats pulses in large quantities, it can increase the uric acid level. Eating 3-4 bowls of pulses daily can cause this problem. However, uric acid patients can also eat 1 bowl of lentils daily. This does not harm health. If you are struggling with the problem of uric acid, then it is not necessary to give up lentils completely. Patients with gout or high uric acid can also eat pulses in limited quantities. Moong and lentils are considered the best in uric acid.
Eating pulses is beneficial for health
Expert said that pulses are considered superfood for the body. Apart from protein, they contain abundant amounts of fiber, iron, vitamin B and potassium. Eating pulses strengthens muscles and controls weight. Consuming pulses improves digestion and improves heart health. Pulses should also be eaten to control blood sugar. For all these reasons, pulses should be included in the daily diet.
