Kanpur Latest News: The call center based monitoring system started in Kanpur city has become an example for rural cleanliness. This system, operated from Vikas Bhawan, has strengthened the daily monitoring of community toilets. As a result, toilets are opening on time, cleanliness has improved and caretakers have also started receiving honorarium regularly.
Kanpur: For the first time in the state, such a call center based system has been started in any district, which has changed the picture of sanitation system in the villages. All the community toilets of the district are being monitored daily from the call center established in Vikas Bhawan of Kanpur city. Its direct impact is that now toilets in rural areas are opening on time, regular cleaning is being done and caretakers have also started getting their honorarium on time. This new system has been made under the Swachh Bharat Mission (Rural). Every day, Gram Panchayat Secretaries, Village Heads, Self-Help Groups and caretakers of toilets are talked to over the phone from the call centre. Complete information about cleanliness, water, electricity, opening and closing of toilets and honorarium payment is taken from them. In this way, for the first time, the ground reality is reaching the district officials directly.
Real picture revealed from call center
When the call center was initially investigated, it was revealed that the honorarium of the caretakers was pending in 103 gram panchayats and 38 community toilets were closed or non-functional. The district administration immediately took strict action on this. The concerned panchayats were given a week’s time and the salaries of 26 secretaries who were negligent were stopped. After this action, rapid improvement was seen in the system.
Improvement came from daily monitoring
After this, daily progress review started from the call centre. Every day it was asked whether the toilets were open or not, how was the cleanliness, whether the water-electricity system was correct or not and whether the caretakers got the honorarium or not. The result of continuous monitoring was that 92 out of 103 gram panchayats paid the outstanding honorarium to the caretakers and 36 out of 38 community toilets were fully operationalized again.
