Mumbai. British High Commissioner Alex Ellis became a social media sensation on Thursday when he tasted Mumbai’s famous snack from a roadside stall. Alex Ellis shared two pictures of himself enjoying the snack on microblogging site Twitter. He wrote, ‘Eating like a #Mumbaikar today – trying the taste of Mumbai Sandwich and Chilli Ice Cream. #BombaySandwich.
Not only this, he also added ‘Aao Khao’ in Marathi to his caption. In the picture, Mr Ellis can be seen enjoying Mumbai’s famous sandwich and chilli ice cream. At the time of writing, the post had garnered over 900 likes and over 49,000 views on Twitter.
Following his post, several Twitter users gave their suggestions on what to try next. A user asked, ‘Have you ever tried Chole Bhature from Rajouri Garden?’ Another user wrote, ‘Hello Alex, hope you agree that Mumbai Sandwich is in a league of its own and deserves more recognition?’
A third user said, “High Commissioner sir, try the ‘Bachelors Ice Cream’ across the Girgaon Chowpatty road!” A fourth user wrote, ‘Thank you, will add this to my list for my next visit to #MumbaiCity.’
This is not the first time that the British High Commissioner has tried the indigenous food and flavor from across the country. Sometime back, Alice had tried Maharashtrian Vada Pav. This is a type of fast food which consists of fried potato fritters inside a bread bun.
Earlier, Ellis was also seen enjoying a delicious plate of dosa and sambar during his visit to Bangalore. Sharing the photo on Twitter, he wrote, ‘Delicious #MysuruMasalaDosa! What a great way to start my first trip to #Bengaluru.
