Senior BJP MLA Dr. Prem Kumar was elected unopposed and unanimously as the next Speaker of Bihar Assembly. As soon as the formal announcement of the elections was made, slogans of “Har Har Mahadev” and “Jai Shri Ram” echoed in the House.
Legislative Assembly Speaker Prem Kumar started his address with a verse from Bhagavad Gita. He said, ‘I am grateful that you all chose me unanimously. As Speaker, it will be my duty to follow the rules of the House and protect the rights of all the members. We have to ensure that dialogue among diversity of views is encouraged. We have got the opportunity to serve the public. For me, both government and opposition will be equally important.

He defeated his main rival, Akhori Onkar Nath of Congress, by a decisive margin of 26,423 votes. Dr. Prem Kumar got a total of 90,878 votes in the election. This victory is another important success of his, which has confirmed his place among the leaders who have represented this seat for the longest period.
