New Delhi. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday alleged that the historical mistakes of allowing Pakistan and China to occupy Indian territory and giving special status to Jammu and Kashmir are the legacy of Jawaharlal Nehru. The BJP also targeted Congress leader Sonia Gandhi for her allegation that the main objective of the current government is to defame Nehru.
On the allegations of Congress Parliamentary Party President, BJP’s national spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia retorted and said that the word used by Sonia Gandhi in her allegation is ‘synonymous’ of her son Rahul Gandhi. Sonia Gandhi had alleged that the ruling BJP aims not only to ‘erase’ the legacy of the country’s first Prime Minister, but also to ‘destroy’ his social and political foundations.
Bhatia alleged, “If there is any ‘Bhasmasur’ in Indian politics today, it is Rahul Gandhi. He ruined the parties of Sharad Pawar and Uddhav Thackeray in Maharashtra, and then ruined them by allying with Arvind Kejriwal’s party in Delhi during the Lok Sabha elections.” He said, “After destroying Tejashwi Yadav in Bihar (elections) recently, he is now going to destroy Akhilesh Yadav in Uttar Pradesh.”
Sonia Gandhi had claimed on Friday that the ‘project’ of defaming the country’s first Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru is being carried forward and this is the main objective of the present government. He also said in a program organized at ‘Jawahar Bhawan’ here that this ‘project’ will have to be fought collectively.
Referring to Nehru’s contribution in building modern India, Gandhi had said that today efforts are being made not only to belittle his personality and his contribution, but also to weaken his multidimensional legacy. Responding sharply to his allegation, Bhatia asked, “What is Nehru’s legacy?”
The BJP spokesperson alleged, “Nehru’s legacy includes the inclusion of Article 370 in the Constitution, rejecting the proposal for China to become a member of the UN Security Council and allowing both Pakistan and China to occupy Indian territory.” He sought answers from Sonia Gandhi on these ‘historical mistakes’.
BJP spokesperson criticized Rahul Gandhi for his allegation that the government asks foreign dignitaries not to meet him. He accused the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha of doing ‘politics of lies’. Bhatia showed photographs of Rahul’s meeting with former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina last year and this year with Mauritius Prime Minister Navinchandra Ramgoolam and New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon and accused the Congress leader of repeatedly calling himself a ‘victim’.
Rahul had on Thursday alleged that the government asks foreign dignitaries not to meet the opposition leader due to its sense of ‘insecurity’. He had said that it is a tradition that foreign dignitaries meet the leader of the opposition, but Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Ministry of External Affairs are not following this rule. Rahul’s comment came a few hours before Russian President Vladimir Putin’s two-day visit to India. Hitting back at the Congress leader, Bhatia said, “Global diplomacy operates on credibility, not on a sense of authority.”
