Chitrakoot: The Transport Department has taken strict steps to stop the increasing road accidents in Chitrakoot district of UP. Now riding a bike without a helmet is no longer a matter to be settled only by paying the challan. The department has warned that in case of repeated violation, the license will be suspended and in case of third violation, the driving license will be canceled permanently. The objective of the campaign is to reduce accidents and deaths.
Government’s concern over increasing road accidents, campaign becomes stricter
ARTO Ram Prakash of Chitrakoot said that the Transport Commissioner and the state government have held a serious meeting on the continuously increasing road accidents in the district. The report has revealed that most of the accidents occur due to not wearing helmet. Therefore, this campaign has now been made not just a formality but completely result based. The transport department and the police are jointly running a strict checking campaign across the district.
Helmet mandatory for people above 4 years of age
ARTO said that if any person above 4 years of age sits on a bike, whether he is the driver or the pillion rider, helmet is mandatory for both. Earlier this rule was limited to papers only, but now it will be strictly monitored. If caught without a helmet for the first time, a challan will be issued. But if the same mistake is repeated for the second time, the driving license will be suspended for three months and a notice will be sent to the person’s home.
Permanent license cancellation on third offense
If a person is caught on the road without a helmet for the third time, preparations have been made to permanently cancel his driving license. Riding a bike in such a situation would be completely illegal. If the person is still caught driving again, punitive action will be taken against him. The Transport Department says that this step is very important to stop careless drivers.
Checking campaign intensified, thousands of challans every month
According to the department, till now the transport department used to issue 500 to 600 challans in a month, whereas the police department was issuing 4 to 5 thousand challans. But now this campaign will be further intensified. Teams are continuously checking on the roads and people are also being made aware. Officials say that helmet is not just a rule, but the most important measure for the safety of the person.
Safety of people is the main objective
ARTO Ram Prakash said that our aim is not to harass anyone, but to reduce road accidents. Helmet saves lives, so it is necessary for every person to follow it. The department hopes that after strictness, people will follow the rules and the graph of road accidents will reduce in the district.
