Eighth Pay Commission New Updates: This is big news for more than one crore government employees and pensioners, who have been waiting for the recommendations and salary increase of the Eighth Pay Commission for a long time. The Joint Consultative Committee (NC JCM) of the National Council (Staff Side) has written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi demanding significant amendments in the Terms of Reference (ToR) of the Eighth Pay Commission.

This letter has also been marked to Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. In this, a request has been made to restore the Old Pension Scheme (OPS). Besides, a demand has been made to amend the pension of retired employees and include important clauses of the previous Pay Commission.
According to the report of Economic Times, after the declaration of ToR of the Eighth Pay Commission, many central employee organizations have also sent letters to the Central Government demanding amendments. This week, Confederation of Central Employees & Workers had also written a letter to the Finance Ministry raising similar demands.
Major demands for changes in TOR
NC JCM Secretary Shiv Gopal Mishra said that the amendment in the ToR will ensure protection of the interests of the armed forces, both current and retired personnel. According to the Economic Times report, the major changes that NC JCM has demanded from the government are:
- The “Expectation of Stakeholders” clause of the Seventh Pay Commission should be included in the ToR of the Eighth Pay Commission.
- The pension of all pensioners should be amended.
- About 26 lakh employees covered under NPS should be included in the Old Pension Scheme (OPS).
- The date of implementation of the Old Pension Scheme should be declared as 1 January 2026.
- Interim relief of 20% should be provided to the employees.
