In India, we have had the fastest growth in total alcohol consumption among the 20 largest countries in the first six months. This is the third time that India is at number one from January to June. Global research company IWSR (International Wine and Spirits Record) gave this special data to Times of India. During this period, the total quantity of liquor increased by 7 percent to 440 million 9 liter cases. One case contains 12 bottles, each bottle is of 750 ml.
According to the report of Times of India, Indian whiskey remains at the first position in the spirits category. Its sales have also increased by 7 percent i.e. more than 130 million cases have been sold. Vodka has seen a rise of 10 percent, rum 2 percent, gin and genever 3 percent. Sarah Campbell, Asia-Pacific head of IWSR, says that the quality of whiskey is improving, customers are increasing, the economy is also supporting. The higher priced spirits are selling faster than the cheaper ones. This growth percentage is the highest compared to other countries.
India will overtake Japan by 2027
Apart from this, China, America, Brazil, Russia, Mexico, Germany, Japan, UK, Spain, South Africa, Italy, France, Poland, Philippines, Thailand, Australia, Canada, Colombia and Netherlands are also included in it. IWSR’s future estimate is that India will overtake Japan in volume by 2027 and will overtake Germany in 2033. We are not far away from reaching number five among 31 markets. The first four spots will be held by China, US, Brazil and Mexico.
Whiskey sales in America down 10 percent
Premium and above liquor grew by 8 per cent in volume and value, which is better than the total. Ready-to-drink drinks have seen the fastest growth of 11 percent. Beer also increased by 7 percent, spirits by 6 percent. There is no movement in the wine. Irish whiskey is up 23 percent, agave spirits are up 19 percent, but American whiskey is down 10 percent. Campbell said that India is now a global hotspot for the liquor industry. Demand for all types of liquor is continuously increasing and the trend of becoming premium has strengthened. Flavored options of brandy have increased in the southern states, the market is consolidating. Flavored vodka is also becoming popular. The bottom line is that India’s liquor market is taking off like a rocket. Good economy, more people are choosing better.
