New Delhi. Senior Congress leader and former Union minister Kapil Sibal on Sunday said India needs a revivalist Congress, but the party needs to show that it is active and willing to work in a meaningful way. He said this in an interview with the news agency ‘PTI-Bhasha’. He also stressed on the need for massive reforms in the party.
Significantly, Kapil Sibal was among a group of 23 leaders who wrote to Sonia Gandhi in August last year, demanding active leadership and comprehensive organizational changes in the party. After this there was a lot of controversy in the Congress. However, later after the intervention of the top leadership, the matter was settled.
Sibal once again underlined that the Congress is getting away from the people. The senior Congress leader said, “Congress needs to do organizational elections at the earliest as well as make major reforms in the party at the central and state level, so that it can be demonstrated to the public that the party has not become inactive. .’
Earlier on June 10, Kapil Sibal had targeted former Union Minister Jitin Prasada, saying that his joining the BJP is ‘Prasad’s politics’. Sibal also said that even if the Congress at some point in his life considered him completely useless, he might consider leaving the party, but would never go to the BJP as it could happen only on his dead body.
