He talked about pressure on the officials and appealed to the Central Government not to stop the development works. Mamata Banerjee compared the voter list revision to the ongoing aviation crisis in the country.
Kolkata. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has raised questions on the timing of the revision of the voter list i.e. ‘Special Intensive Revision’ (SIR). He alleged on Monday that this time had been deliberately chosen so that the ongoing development work in the state could be stopped. During an administrative review meeting in Cooch Behar, Mamata said that the purpose of this process is to snatch the voting rights of the common people and help BJP in the elections. He clearly said that too much pressure is being put on the officials.
Pressure on officials and development work: Mamata Banerjee said that she knows that Booth Level Officer (BLO), Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO) and booth agents are working under immense pressure. He said that BLOs are being threatened. Officers are unable to sleep due to workload. Servers also stop working after 10 pm. Despite this, the Chief Minister appealed to the officials not to ignore development works due to SIR. Development work is a continuous process and there should be no laxity in it.
No detention camp in Bengal: The Trinamool supremo asked why there is such a hurry to complete this work in two months? Last time it took two years. He alleged that this SIR has deliberately taken time to stop the development projects of the state government. Mamata Banerjee also said that her government will not build any ‘detention camp’ in the state. She said, “There will be no detention camp in Bengal till my last breath. I follow the Constitution. I do secular politics.”
Comparison with aviation crisis: Mamata Banerjee compared the voter list revision to the ongoing aviation crisis in the country. He said that just as due to poor planning people are not able to board the flight even after having tickets, similarly this SIR is also the result of poor planning. It’s all a mess.
Help Desk from 12th December: Mamata announced a new initiative to help the voters. He said that ‘May I Help You’ booths will be set up in every ward from December 12. He appealed to the people to attend the Election Commission hearing after the SIR. He also instructed the District Magistrates to provide full assistance to the BLOs in this work.
