PM Modi held an important meeting with BJP MPs from Bengal on Wednesday. According to sources, the atmosphere of the meeting was focused on election strategy and preparations for the coming months. During this discussion, the Prime Minister gave a clear message to the MPs that now the aim is only to ensure victory in Bengal. He said that the party has taken the fight far in the state, and now there is a need to keep this fight stronger and more continuous.
Many leaders including Bengal BJP President Shamik Bhattacharya, Union Minister Shekhar Thakur, and Sukant Majumdar were present in this meeting. Prime Minister Narendra Modi told him on the ongoing SIR process in Bengal that the simpler and more transparent this work can be, the better it is. He told BJP MPs, ‘Avoid unnecessary complexity. The only purpose of SIR is to ensure that genuine voters are included in the list and those who are not eligible are removed…that’s it. This is a normal, necessary process.
PM Modi reminded the MPs that the 2026 elections are not far, and it is very important to avoid distractions at this time. Without naming any party, he advised not to waste energy in reacting to the opposition’s rhetoric. According to him, BJP’s journey in Bengal may have been difficult, but reaching today’s position from three MLAs in 2011 is in itself a long journey and a sign of a strong foundation. He said firmly, ‘This journey should not stop.’ He encouraged the MPs to continue working hard, ‘We have to work hard and ensure that this time we win in Bengal.’
Local issues were also discussed in this meeting. PM Modi asked the MPs what is happening at the ground level, what are people saying, what are they angry about, what are they expecting from. There was also mention of the recent attack on MP Khagen Murmu, to which he listened seriously. His clear message was that continuous engagement with the public is the key to electoral success.
The next elections in Bengal are considered very important. Mamata Banerjee is trying to return to power for the fourth time and this time BJP wants to present itself as a strong alternative. This is the reason why the party has handed over the election responsibilities to leaders like Bhupendra Yadav and Biplab Deb.
