Mamata Banerjee News: CM Mamata Banerjee targeted the central government and BJP for removing the names of eligible voters under SIR. He warned of protest and asked women to be ready to protect their rights. Mamta Banerjee said that she herself has not yet filled her counting form.
Kolkata. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday attacked the central government over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list. She warned that if the name of even one eligible voter was removed from the list during this period, she would stage a protest. Banerjee alleged that the SIR was being used as a political weapon ahead of the 2026 assembly elections.
She said, “If the name of even one eligible voter is removed from the voter list, I will stage a protest. No detention center will be built in West Bengal. They are so hungry for votes that they are conducting SIR just two months before the elections.” Banerjee said that she herself has not yet filled her census form. Pointing towards the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), he said, “Do I now need to prove my citizenship to the party of rioters?”
In her sharp statements targeting the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list in election-bound West Bengal, Trinamool Congress leader and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee asked the women of the state to be ready with kitchen tools if their names are removed during the voter list review. Banerjee said at a rally in Krishnanagar, Bengal, “You will take away the rights of mothers and sisters in the name of SIR? They will bring police from Delhi during elections and scare mothers and sisters. Mothers and sisters, if your names are cut, you have tools, right? The same tools you use while cooking. You have power, right? If your names are cut, you will not tolerate it, right?” No? The women will fight ahead, and the men will follow them.”
Accusing the central government of targeting Bengalis, Banerjee said, “We have a (Union) Home Minister who can do anything to declare all Bengalis as Bangladeshis and send them to detention centres. But we will not allow anyone to be thrown out of West Bengal. If anyone is forcibly expelled, we know very well the way to bring him back.”
The Chief Minister alleged that the Election Commission was deploying officials associated with the BJP to influence the election process. He claimed, “Some people supported by BJP are being sent from Delhi to keep an eye on the situation in West Bengal. They are monitoring the work of the district magistrates during the hearing of the SIR.”
