Statistics coming from hospitals are showing that a large number of youth aged between 30 to 40 years are becoming victims of brain stroke. This situation is also worrisome because this is the age for working and handling the responsibilities of the family. Such cases are continuously coming to light in the Neurology Department of GSVM Medical College, Kanpur, where young patients are reaching the hospital with sudden paralysis, difficulty in speaking or unconsciousness.
Dr. Manish Singh, Head of Neurology Department, GSVM Medical College, said that changing lifestyle is the biggest reason for increasing cases of brain stroke. Nowadays stress has increased a lot among the youth. Staying awake till late night, excessive consumption of junk food, lack of physical activity and spending long time on mobile and laptop are increasing the risk of stroke. Apart from this, high blood pressure, diabetes, obesity, smoking and alcohol consumption are also increasing rapidly among the youth. Many people do not take these problems seriously, due to which the risk of brain stroke increases manifold.
Early symptoms of brain stroke
- Sudden weakness or numbness in one part of the body
- Difficulty speaking or not getting words out clearly
- sudden dizziness or fainting
- poor eyesight
- severe headache
How to prevent brain stroke?
- Walk or exercise for at least 30 minutes daily
- Reduce intake of salt, oil and junk food
- Get your blood pressure and sugar checked regularly
- Stay away from smoking and alcohol
- Adopt yoga and meditation to reduce stress
