Kolkata. There is going to be a big change in the West Bengal Assembly. Trinamool Congress (TMC) has taken a strict decision regarding its rebel MLA Humayun Kabir. After being suspended from the party, his seat can now be changed in the assembly. Humayun Kabir had laid the foundation stone of a mosque like ‘Babri Masjid’ in Murshidabad. After this controversial decision, the party suspended him. A senior TMC leader said that the party high command is taking this matter seriously. His place will be changed before the winter session.
Preparation for suspension and seat replacement: TMC Chief Whip Nirmal Ghosh in the state assembly has confirmed this. He said that the party is keeping an eye on the entire situation. In the next few days, a decision will be taken on the seating arrangements of Kabir and other suspended MLAs. Humayun Kabir has been suspended for six years for anti-party activities. The Trinamool Parliamentary Party wants this change to happen before the upcoming winter and interim budget sessions. The tenure of the current assembly is about to end. In such a situation, the party does not want to take any risk.
Can get a place next to Partha Chatterjee: According to sources, Humayun Kabir can be made to sit next to Partha Chatterjee in the assembly. Partha Chatterjee is also a suspended MLA of TMC. He was arrested by ED in the School Service Commission (SSC) recruitment scam. After this he was suspended in 2022. Both Kabir and Partha Chatterjee have recently expressed their desire to attend the session after being released from custody. The party wants that these two should be seated separately from other MLAs.
Effort to save the party from embarrassment: TMC insiders say that this step is a well-thought-out strategy. The party wants to maintain a safe distance from the rebel MLA. There is a fear that Humayun Kabir may try to embarrass the party during the session. Therefore, there is a plan to make him sit away from loyal MLAs. Elections are to be held next year and only a few months are left for the dissolution of the assembly. In such a situation, TMC is taking every possible step to maintain discipline.
