Azamgarh News: Azamgarh Police has taken action against a sub-inspector involved in corruption and sent him to jail. After the complaint of the victim, in the investigation conducted by the SP of the district, the Inspector was found taking bribe, after which he was suspended with immediate effect and sent to jail.
Azamgarh: UP Police is always in the news for its dashing exploits. Similarly, the action of Azamgarh Police of UP is once again in the news. Actually, Inspector Lal Bahadur Prasad posted at Devgaon Kotwali of Azamgarh district has been arrested on charges of demanding bribe. After the complaint of the victim, this action has been taken against the Inspector who was found guilty in the investigation of Azamgarh SSP and with immediate effect the Inspector was suspended and confined in the same police station where he was posted as Inspector. This instruction has also been given by the dynamic SSP of the district that corruption will not be tolerated at all in the department.
Asking for a bribe of Rs 5000 proved costly
In fact, a complaint was lodged in the public hearing on behalf of Akash Chauhan, a resident of village Mirzapur under Devgaon police station Kotwali of the district, that he was beaten up by the village head and his associates due to old enmity. In this regard, a case was registered against three named accused in Devgaon police station, which was being investigated by Sub Inspector Lal Bahadur Prasad. During investigation, a bribe of Rs 5000 was being demanded from the Sub Inspector for sending all these accused to jail, filing chargesheet and taking immediate action in the case.
Case filed under corruption act
On the complaint lodged by the victim, immediate cognizance was taken by the Senior Superintendent of Police of the district, Dr. Anil Kumar and an impartial investigation was handed over to the jurisdictional Lalganj. In the investigation, Sub Inspector Lal Bahadur Prasad was prima facie found guilty and the complaint of demanding bribe was found to be absolutely true. After this, a case was registered against the Sub Inspector in Devgaon police station under case number 441/2025 Section 7 Prevention of Corruption Act 1988. The accused sub-inspector was suspended and sent to jail.
Action on complaint from the victim
Giving information on the matter, Azamgarh SP Rural Chirag Jain told Local 18 that a complaint was made on behalf of the victim that a bribe of Rs 5000 was demanded from Sub Inspector Lal Bahadur Prasad for investigation and action, the allegation was found to be true in the investigation conducted by CO Lalganj, after which a case was registered against the Sub Inspector and he was suspended and sent to jail.
