A stabbing incident took place at the HKT48 theater complex in Fukuoka city of Japan, in which two people were injured. Police have arrested the 30-year-old accused and the case is being investigated as attempt to murder. This attack has been seen after America’s Brown University and Australia’s Bondi Beach attack.
The attacks targeting public spaces in different parts of the world have once again increased the concern of security agencies. After America and Australia, now violent attacks have come to light in Japan also. In Japan, a person resorted to knife attack, in which two people were badly injured. These three incidents have raised the question whether public places are now becoming soft targets globally. These attacks are also being compared with massacres like Pahalgam, where civilians were targeted by Pakistani terrorists in the name of their religion.
Attack took place in Japan also
On Monday, news of violence also came from Fukuoka city of Japan. A stabbing incident at an entertainment complex in Japan’s southern city of Fukuoka has shocked the country. The complex is best known for the theater of the popular female pop music group HKT48. Japanese police said on Monday that a 30-year-old man has been arrested in this case, who is accused of attacking two people with a knife. The condition of both the injured is not said to be serious, but the case is being investigated as attempted murder.
How did Japan attack?
According to Fukuoka police, the incident occurred on Sunday when the accused allegedly stabbed a 44-year-old man in the chest with a kitchen knife-like weapon. The victim is said to be an employee of HKT48 theatre. According to Japanese media reports, the attack took place when the employee saw the accused in a part of the complex where he was not allowed and asked him to leave. Not only this, the accused also stabbed a 27-year-old woman in the back in the elevator hall of the same complex and then fled from the spot. However, the police acted swiftly and arrested him. At present, the police has not given any information regarding the motive behind the attack and has also refused to officially comment on the second attack.
Why are cases like this rare in Japan?
Following the incident, HKT48 management canceled the fan event scheduled for Sunday night due to security reasons. This attack has started a new debate regarding security in Japan. It is noteworthy that violent crimes are considered extremely rare in Japan, especially because it has the world’s strictest gun laws. Despite this, there have been some high-profile cases involving knife attacks and homemade explosives in recent years
Attack took place in American University also
On Saturday, there was a firing during the final exams at Brown University in Rhode Island, America, in which two students died and nine people were injured. The campus remained under lockdown for hours and the police conducted a massive search operation, but the attacker was not caught. A 24-year-old man was detained, but the process of releasing him was later declared as a ‘person of interest’. Till now there has been no official confirmation regarding the motive of the attack.
Attack on Australia’s Bondi Beach
The very next day, a horrific terrorist attack took place on Bondi Beach in Sydney, Australia during the Jewish festival of Hanukkah. A father and son from Pakistan opened fire on the beach, killing 16 people and injuring dozens. The attack is believed to be Australia’s deadliest mass shooting since 1996. This incident has intensified the debate about anti-Jewish violence and radicalism in Australia.
