Population Control Policy: The increasing population in our country is a problem in itself. The government is taking various steps regarding this and sometimes there is opposition and sometimes satisfaction is expressed. However, today we will tell you about a country where the government itself has come forward to force people to have children.
Why Condoms Get Costly in China: We all know that at present India is at the top among the most populous countries in the world. However, before this the name of China was above us, which has now gone backward. While India is still looking for ways to reduce population, efforts are being made in China to ensure that people produce more and more children. Although people are not ready for this, the government has decided that they will continue to increase the population. In this context, the government here has now increased the tax on contraceptive means.
Among the steps taken by China to increase the population, the tax imposed on condoms is gaining the most headlines. For the first time, the government will collect value-added tax (VAT) on condoms, contraceptive drugs and other similar products. In China, these things were tax free for the last three decades, but now consumers will have to pay 13 percent tax on them.
Why is the government bent on having a child?
Actually, in 1993, China was strictly implementing the one child policy and contraceptive materials were kept tax free to promote family planning. After thirty years the situation there has changed. Now the birth rate in the country is falling rapidly and the population is continuously decreasing. Therefore, China is now taking steps to motivate people to have more children. This tax change is part of that strategy.
If condoms are expensive, will they be cheaper?
Contraceptive products will be expensive from the Chinese government, but in the new tax policy, some special services have been exempted from tax. These include those facilities which are related to children, such as nurseries and pre-schools, elderly care institutions,
Services related to persons with disabilities, marriage and wedding planning services. The government believes that by making these services cheaper, the burden of starting a family and raising children can be reduced.
Why did the population decrease in China?
China’s population has been continuously decreasing for three years. This sharp decline in population is being considered a threat to China’s economy. For this reason, the government has already started taking steps like giving money on the birth of a child, longer leaves and better childcare. The new policies also state that the number of non-essential abortions will be reduced. This step is completely different from the era in which forced sterilization and abortion were carried out in China. A 2024 report by a population study institute in Beijing shows that raising children in China is among the most expensive countries in the world. The report shows that approximately 5.38 lakh yuan is spent on a child from birth to 18 years of age. After this, unemployment and inflation are scaring people from having children.
