Gaya News: GRP action was seen in Gaya district of Bihar. When the GRP team searched the Doon Express here, a shocking secret came to light. Hissing sounds were coming from the sack kept in the sleeper bogie. As soon as it was opened, the soldiers were left stunned.
Gone: Shocking news came out from Gaya Junction in Bihar, where Doon Express stopped at the platform and Railway Police (GRP) suddenly started raiding the sleeper bogie. The reason was a strange “hiss-hiss” sound coming from coach number S-7. Initially no one understood what was inside the sack, but as soon as the police opened the sack, everyone present there was shocked.
One by one, 48 live turtles came out from inside the sack. All the turtles were kept in two sacks in very tight condition. The entire matter was immediately informed to the senior officials. GRP got all the turtles out safely and called the forest department on the spot and handed them over. According to the Railway Police, the estimated value of the recovered turtles is said to be around Rs 24 lakh. It is being told that these turtles were being taken by train to some other state for smuggling. The surprising thing was that in the coach from where the turtles were recovered, no one came forward to claim their ownership rights. During interrogation the passengers also expressed ignorance.
102 live turtles were caught 2 days ago
Railway police say that Doon Express is being used again and again by tortoise smugglers. Just two days ago, 102 live turtles were recovered from the same train. Despite this, no big smuggler has been arrested so far. This makes it clear that an organized network of tortoise smuggling is active, which is continuously carrying out such smuggling considering the railway route as a safe route. Forest Department officials said that turtles are protected creatures under the Wildlife Protection Act. Their trafficking is a serious crime, which carries severe punishment. At present, all the recovered turtles have been sent to a safe place, where they will be taken care of.
Turtle smuggling is happening again and again
On the one hand, due to these continuous seizures at Gaya Junction, the vigilance of GRP is being appreciated. On the other hand, the question is also being raised that how are the smugglers using the same route and train again and again without so much fear. Police say that efforts are being made to reach the smugglers on the basis of CCTV footage and technical investigation.
