New Delhi (Indian Army Story)The passing out parade at the Indian Military Academy (IMA), Dehradun is always a grand affair, But for 32-year-old Gurmukh Singh, it was no less than a dream come true, For him, failure was never an obstacle, but another solid step towards his goal, After completing his schooling, Gurmukh Singh joined the Indian Army as a soldier, But he had a deep passion in his heart to become a commissioned officer,
Studies continued amidst the challenges of Ladakh
Gurmukh Singh’s journey is a proof of his determination and discipline. During his service, he had to be posted at challenging and remote posts like Ladakh. Amidst these difficult postings, finding time to prepare for the exam was a difficult challenge. In his quest to fulfill his dream, he completed his PG degree along with B.Ed while in service. His father, retired Subedar Major Jaswant Singh, encouraged him after every failure and kept motivating him to achieve his goals.
Seven efforts, one unwavering resolve
Gurmukh Singh tried many entry routes to reach his goal. He appeared for the Army Cadet College (ACC) entrance examination three times, but did not succeed. After this he attempted twice through Special Commissioned Officers (SCO) entry, failing both times. Despite these 5 failures, he remained firm on his goal. His years of hard work and dedication bore fruit in his 7th attempt, when he secured his place in the final merit list.
Commissioned into the Army Air Defense (AAD) Corps
After passing out from IMA, Lieutenant Gurmukh Singh has been commissioned in the Army Air Defense (AAD) Corps. His father, retired Subedar Major Jaswant Singh and mother Kulwant Kaur were present at the ceremony to witness this historic moment. His father said that from the day Gurmukh joined the army, he had a passion to become an officer. Lieutenant Gurmukh Singh believes that his years of experience as a soldier will help him in leadership.
Journey from a soldier to a skilled leader
Gurmukh Singh told the media that he understands how the army works and how to handle the soldiers. Leading the troops will be natural for him and he will do it with full commitment. He likes to read motivational books to stay focused on his aim of serving the nation and also values time spent with family. The story of Lieutenant Gurmukh Singh in the Army is an inspiration for every soldier in the Indian Army that any goal can be achieved with determination and discipline.
