There is a special reason for celebrating January 15 as Army Day in India. This day reminds one of the most important events in the history of India. In fact, on January 15, 1949, for the first time after nearly 200 years of British rule, an Indian was handed over the reins of the Indian Army. For the first time, the post of Commander-in-Chief was given to an Indian military officer from a British military officer. Then Field Marshal KM Cariappa took over from General Sir Francis Butcher as the first Indian Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Army. On this day the achievements, service to the country, immense contribution and sacrifice of Indian soldiers are honoured.
