How to make arhar dal tadka recipe: Arhar Dal Tadka is a recipe which is considered the heart of every Indian kitchen. No matter how heavy the day has been, no matter how many fancy dishes are prepared at home, a hot bowl of Arhar Dal Tadka mixed with roti or rice instantly refreshes the mood. Its aroma is so amazing that the smell of food starts spreading in the house. Arhar dal, despite being so simple, is a very comforting food, and making it is not as difficult as people think. Nowadays, many easy and viral recipes of dal tadka are trending on social media, in which dal is made exactly like a restaurant with a few spices and the right tadka. The good thing is that homemade arhar dal is healthy, light and nutritious, so there is no problem in eating it daily. If you also want your arhar dal tadka to win everyone’s heart at home, then definitely try this easy and flavorful recipe.

Ingredients required for Arhar Dal

Arhar dal – 1 cup
Water – 3 cups
Turmeric – half teaspoon
salt to taste
Tomato – 1 finely chopped
Onion – 1 medium
Green chilli – 2 chopped
Garlic – 5 to 6 cloves
Ginger – a little grated
Asafoetida – a pinch
Cumin – 1 tsp
Dry red chilli – 2
Coriander leaves – a little
Ghee – 2 tbsp or oil
Red chilli powder – 1 tsp
Garam masala – half teaspoon

Right way to boil lentils
First of all, wash arhar dal thoroughly and soak it for 10 minutes. This cooks the dal quickly and gives a creamy texture. Add lentils, water, turmeric and salt in the cooker. Now cook it for 3 to 4 whistles. Switch off the gas and let the cooker cool down naturally. When you open the cooker after some time, the dal will look absolutely soft and smooth. If the dal seems a little thick then adjust the consistency by adding some hot water.

Why is ghee necessary for tadka?
The real taste of dal tadka is hidden in the tadka. Ghee is considered the lifeblood of this recipe as it adds richness, aroma and flavor to the dal. If you do not like ghee, you can also use oil, but the taste of ghee makes the dal special.

Easy method of making Tadka
Heat ghee in a pan. Add cumin and dry red chilli in it. As soon as cumin starts crackling, add finely chopped garlic. Cook the garlic until it turns light golden. Now add chopped onion to it and fry until the onion becomes transparent. After this add ginger and green chilli. Sauté for 1 minute. Now add tomatoes and cook until soft. Add red chilli powder and a little salt to it. Mix the spices well. When the tomatoes dissolve and the masala starts releasing oil, add this seasoning to the boiled dal.

Perfect mixture of dal and tadka
After adding tempering, let the dal cook on low flame for 3 to 4 minutes. Due to this, the spices dissolve well in the dal and the flavor of the dal increases manifold. Finally add some garam masala and finely chopped coriander leaves and turn off the gas.

How to give restaurant like smoky tadka
If you like hotel style dal tadka then you can try smoking technique. For this, heat a small coal on the gas until it turns red. Place a steel bowl between the pulses and place coal in it. Put some ghee on the coal and immediately cover the dal with a lid. Open the lid after 1 minute. The dal will get smokey and amazing flavour.

Best way to serve dal
Serve Arhar Dal Tadka hot only. Fresh roti, basmati rice or jeera rice taste great with it. If you add some ghee on top then the taste of dal increases even more. If you want, you can also keep onion salad and papad along.
