Reasons for cracked cheeks
According to the report of Healthline, experts have said that there can be many reasons behind dry skin or swollen cheeks.
- chilly weather: In winter, low humidity and low temperature make the skin dry. Running a heater inside the house also reduces the humidity further, due to which the skin becomes more dry.
- Chemical: Many products like dish soap and laundry detergent contain harsh chemicals. These substances can cause dryness by damaging the protective layer of the skin.
- Hot Water: Hot water used for bathing or washing utensils reduces the moisture of the skin. That is why it is said that one should not bathe with too hot water.
- Some medicines: The use of certain medications can also cause skin dryness, such as topical retinoids.
- Excessive moisture: When the skin is exposed to moisture for a long time, it can cause irritation and even dry out the skin. For example, wearing sweaty socks for too long can affect the skin on the feet. This happens because water itself is an irritant to the skin.
- Reasons in Ayurveda -Vata dosha increases in the body during winter, which is the cause of skin related disorders. This increases the heat in the body and the skin starts becoming dry.
Ways to heal cracked cheeks
Moisturizing ointment or cream: Since dry skin can cause or worsen chapping, it is important to keep the skin well hydrated. For this, apply moisturizer regularly. Try using ointments and creams. Reapply moisturizer two to three times a day, especially right after showering. Pay special attention to the most dry parts of the body.
Use oil: Applying oil on cheeks can also eliminate the problem of cracked cheeks. For this, apply oils like jojoba oil, coconut oil, olive oil, shea butter etc. If you do not want to apply oil on your cheeks, you can use desi ghee at night. It will penetrate inside the skin and provide moisture.
Petroleum jelly : Petroleum jelly can also heal the skin of the cheeks. The jelly treats cracks by forming a protective layer on the skin. It locks the moisture inside the skin, which helps in healing the cracked skin. Wherever the skin is cracked, apply petroleum jelly. Petroleum jelly i.e. Vaseline is also included in it. Petroleum jelly is very effective especially for dry lips.
herbal face wash: Use herbal face wash and lukewarm water to wash your face and do not forget to apply aloe vera gel or moisturizer after washing. This will help in keeping the cheeks soft.
Honey and Aloe Vera: Applying honey and aloe vera on the cheeks will also provide relief. Honey is most beneficial in reducing skin moisture and aloe vera will help in improving the complexion.
