Bathing In Winters With Hot Water: Some people are fond of bathing with very hot water in winter. Whereas experts say that by doing this the moisturizer layer of hair and skin gets removed and it can cause harm in the long term.
In winter, people often like to take bath with very hot water, but this habit can be very harmful for your skin and hair. Hot water removes cold from the body, but it also takes away the natural moisture and oil from the skin. Doing this for a long time can make the skin dry, lifeless and allergy-prone. Therefore, it is important to always keep the temperature of water balanced while bathing.
Very hot water rapidly removes the natural oil present in the outer layer of the skin. This oil keeps our skin soft and protected. When this oil decreases, itching, burning, redness and dry patches start forming on the skin. Due to this, problems like eczema can also increase in many people. In winter, when the air is already dry, using hot water further aggravates the skin problem.
The hair roots also contain natural oil which keeps them strong and shiny. But this oil gets destroyed by extremely hot water. Due to this, hair becomes dry, brittle and dull. Hot water also damages the scalp, which can increase the problem of dandruff and itching. It can also affect hair growth.

Keeping in mind the health of skin and hair, only lukewarm water should always be used. The water should be so hot that it feels comfortable to the body, but steam should not come out. This temperature does not harm the natural oil of the skin and the body also gets cleaned thoroughly. Especially children and elderly people should avoid bathing with too hot water.
If your skin or hair is getting dry then moisturizing is the most important step immediately after bathing. Instead of wiping with a towel, dry the water by patting it lightly. The longer some moisture remains on the skin, the better the moisturizer locks. Cream-based moisturizers and body oils are best for the skin. It is beneficial to apply coconut or almond oil on hair twice a week. Be sure to use conditioner after shampoo.
Drinking less water also dehydrates the skin. Therefore, taking adequate amount of water, coconut water and herbal drinks throughout the day keeps the skin moisturized. Also include ghee, almonds, flax seeds and omega-3 fats in your diet.
