Winter Gardening Tips in Hindi: While winter season brings difficulties for people, maintaining the garden also becomes a big challenge. Due to continuously falling temperatures and strong cold winds, plant growth slows down and the damage caused by fog on delicate plants increases rapidly. In such an environment, experienced gardener Umesh Kumar of Jaunpur says that if some simple measures are taken on time, the garden can remain safe and green throughout the season.
It is important to water at the right time in winter
Umesh Kumar says that in winter, plants should be watered in the afternoon instead of in the morning. By watering when the sun is light and the soil is not cold, the roots of the plants remain safe and the plants do not shrink. Watering in the morning increases the risk of frost. He said that plants take less water in winter, hence giving light water is sufficient, excess water can cause harm by cooling the roots.
Mulching provides warmth to plants
He told that mulching is very beneficial to protect from frost. For this, spread dry leaves, straw, wood sawdust or coconut coir on the soil. This also maintains the moisture of the soil and the cold does not reach the roots directly. Covering small or medium pots with cloth, cardboard or plastic sheet at night also prevents frost from forming and the plants remain safe.
Pay attention to the nutrition of plants in winter
It is also very important to provide warmth to the plants in winter. Keep the pots in such a place where there is no direct impact of strong wind. Walls or room corners give better protection to plants. Plants spend less energy in winter, hence giving light manure, bran and balanced mineral mix is beneficial for them. This maintains the strength of the roots and the plants are able to withstand cold.
increase sun exposure
If possible, shift the pots to a place where it gets sunlight for at least 3 to 4 hours a day. Sunlight is the biggest need of plants in winter. Due to lack of sunlight the leaves start turning yellow and growth stops.
