Mushroom Farming Winter Tips: Young farmers in Saharanpur are adopting mushroom cultivation on a large scale, but the problem of increasing rot in winter becomes a big challenge. By adopting easy measures suggested by experts, farmers can save their entire crop from getting spoiled.
Saharanpur: The trend of farming is changing rapidly in Saharanpur, the last district of Uttar Pradesh. The youth here are now moving towards such crops instead of traditional farming which require hard work but also provide higher income. One of these is mushroom cultivation. Its specialty is that it does not require land, rather it can be easily grown even in a small room or cottage.
But mushroom is a very delicate crop. Even a little carelessness can spoil the hard work. This crop is especially affected in winter, because fluctuations in temperature cause direct damage to the mushrooms. As the cold increases, the temperature of the room goes down considerably and due to this most of the farmers face the problem of melting. Once any bag starts melting, gradually the other bags also start getting spoiled.
In view of this problem, we are telling you about those measures by adopting which farmers can keep their entire crop safe. Keep in mind that there are many varieties of mushrooms and the problem is also solved accordingly. Most of the farmers grow button mushroom, which is sold at a good price in the market and helps a lot in increasing the income of the farmers.
Ways to prevent mushroom rot in winter
Dr. I.K., in-charge and professor of Agricultural Science Center. According to Kushwaha, the correct temperature of the mushroom room in winter should be between 15 to 18 degrees. But when it is very cold, this temperature falls to 5 degrees, due to which the problem of melting increases. To prevent this, farmers should keep these things in mind.
use water properly
Sprinkle light water on the mushroom bags, but do not use excessive amount of water. Excess water gets stuck inside the bag and slowly causes melting. This melting spreads from one bag to another.
Sulfur or slaked lime is useful
If melting has started then an effective method is Sulfur 80WDG. Mix it in 3 grams per liter of water and sprinkle it on the bags. Sulfur produces heat, which helps in stopping melting.
If farmers do not want to use sulphur, then they should take quicklime, slaked it, mix half a liter of it in 20 liters of water and sprinkle it on the bags. Melting is also much less than this.
increase the room temperature
In case of excessive melting, it is necessary to increase the room temperature slightly. For this, farmers can use bulbs, smoke-free fireplaces or blowers. Due to this, the temperature of the room remains balanced and the crop remains safe.
