New Delhi. A shocking change is taking place in the global employment market, towards which industrialist Anand Mahindra has drawn people’s attention. While most people are worried about AI eliminating white collar jobs, the real crisis is the jobs that are not being eliminated but are lying vacant. These are the same high-paying skilled jobs on which the world’s everyday life depends. According to Mahindra, the real danger is not arising from machines but from the lack of humans.
Anand Mahindra told on social media platform X that the danger which the society is ignoring is very serious. Quoting Ford CEO Jim Farley, he said that the company has 5000 mechanic vacancies in America, many of whom have a salary of $ 120,000 annually. Despite this, people are not being found for these posts. Mahindra said that this problem is not only for Ford but the whole of America is searching for people for more than one million trucking, plumbing, electrical and factory jobs.
Decades old thinking is becoming very difficult today
According to Mahindra, this decline did not happen suddenly. For many decades people were pushed only towards degrees, office jobs and corporate careers. The society considered the work of skilled trades inferior and gradually the youth started moving away from it. But these are the tasks that AI will never be able to replace, because professions like mechanic, plumber, electrician, machine operator require hands-on training, judgment and experience which machines cannot learn.
Will the definition of dream job change?
Mahindra said that the real question is whether the world will now start believing that the real dream career is the one in which a person can create, improve or add something. If current trends continue, the biggest winners of the AI age will not be coders or corporate executives but the people who fix machines, build houses, sew clothes or do real work in factories. He said that Karl Marx had imagined revolution through the struggle of workers but today’s revolution is not arising from lack of jobs but from lack of skilled labourers.
Social media opinion, new respect for real work
Many users agreed with Mahindra that the world got so lost in the glamor of AI that it forgot the trades that run everyday life. People wrote that machines can write code but humans will always be needed for server wiring, system repair and manufacturing. Many said that in the future, manual workers will benefit the most and India should give new respect and better pay to skilled workers.
Saurabh Mukherjee’s warning
Market expert Saurabh Mukherjee has also been warning for a long time that white collar jobs in India are changing rapidly. According to him, this decline is not due to recession but due to AI based efficiency. A large number of jobs in IT, banking, media and advertising are changing because everything from models to props is being created synthetically. He said that Indian families are already under heavy debt and the coming change could create further problems. If policies are not improved soon, there is a big threat to the stability of India’s middle class.
