Taking a major action during 21–24 November 2025, Mumbai Airport Commissionerate has seized a total of hydroponic weed worth Rs 32.6 crore and gold worth Rs 73.46 lakh. All the passengers had come from Bangkok and have been arrested under NDPS Act and Customs Act.
Mumbai Airport News: Everything was not normal that night at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport. Officers of Custom Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) were busy searching on Advanced Passenger Information System (APIS). Suddenly there was a wrinkle on his forehead, but a smile appeared on his lips. One by one he came to know four such profiles, whose travel history was telling a lot. After this, the customs officer called fellow officers posted on the green channel and informed that four profiles were being matched on the Bangkok flight.
As soon as the details of the profiles were received, the eyes of the customs officers started searching for those four passengers. After a few minutes, Thai Airways flight TG-337 from Bangkok had landed at Mumbai Airport. All the passengers had completed the immigration process one by one and started reaching the baggage belt. By now the AIU team had spread near the baggage belt also. Then the eyes of an AIU officer got stuck on a young man. His age would be between 25 to 27 years. He was moving fast with a small bag on his shoulder.
The face of this young man was tired, but restlessness was clearly visible in his eyes instead of sleep. APIS had already highlighted his name in red. As soon as this young man reached the green channel, the AIU officer said very politely – Sir, the bag will have to be checked. After listening to the AIU officer, the young man laughed and said – Hey sir, there are only two T-shirts and undergarments. Hearing this, the AIU officer smiled and said – No problem, it will only take two minutes. When the zip was opened, inside the bag there were two packets of Pritz at the top and a thick towel at the bottom.
When the towel was removed, green-golden glowing hydroponic weed emerged from inside. Whose weight was more than 4 kg. Seeing this the young man’s face turned white. He wanted to say something, but just one look from the AIU officer silenced him. That same night, three more passengers from different flights were caught. One of them was a woman, this woman had a double layer stitched in the pallu of the saree. The second guy who had a false bottom in the bottom of his suitcase, the third guy who had packets stuck with tape on his body.
A total of 10 kg 899 grams of hydroponic weed and gold were recovered from their possession. The value of the recovered weed has been estimated to be around Rs 10 crore. The price of this weed in the market is being estimated at more than Rs 10 crore. All four passengers have been arrested under the NDPS Act.
