New Delhi. Bharat Taxi, an online ride service developed with the support of eight big cooperative institutions of the country, has started its pilot operation in Delhi on Tuesday. This service has come out to directly challenge private companies like Ola, Uber and Rapido. After its launch in Delhi, it will soon be extended to other states.
Bharat Taxi is run by Sahakar Taxi Co-operative Limited. This institution was formed on June 6, 2025 under the MSCS Act 2002 and it has leading cooperative organizations like Amul, IFFCO, KRIBHCO, NAFED, NDDB, NCEL, NCDC and NABARD as promoters. More than 51000 drivers have been registered on the app so far. The special thing is that two driver representatives have also been included in the board of the organization.
it’s a taxi, not a cab
It is being claimed that this app will challenge the already established ride booking apps. That means it will compete directly with ride booking platforms like Ola, Uber and Rapido. But at present this does not seem to be happening. It can definitely compete with local taxi booking services. Because this app does not work like a cab booking app. Let’s take Uber for example. You enter the destination in it and you start seeing the options of different trains with a waiting period of a few minutes. This is not the case with Bharat Taxi. In that you will have to pre-book a taxi which will come to you after 2-3 hours. Also its fare will be very high. There will also be a pre-determined limit on luggage. See the example below to understand the difference in fares.
When a fixed distance fare was compared with Uber on Bharat Taxi’s website, the result was shocking. Uber was charging just Rs 548 from Noida to Faridabad, which increased to Rs 600 during surge times. The vehicle will be at your doorstep in just 2 minutes. So Bharat Taxi was charging more than Rs 4000 for this. In such a situation, it is certain that with 8 times higher prices, Bharat Taxi is not challenging any cab aggregator. Of course it can definitely compete with other taxi booking services.
How will Bharat Taxi work?
On the app, customers will be able to book rides in all three categories: car, auto and bike. The fare will be completely transparent and the GPS based tracking system will make every journey safe. Features like multilingual interface, 24-hour customer support and secure onboarding have been added to the app. The app has also been linked to other transport services of the city including Delhi Metro, so that passengers will be able to plan their journey on a single platform.
The biggest advantage for drivers is the zero commission model.
The biggest attraction of Bharat Taxi is its zero commission model. Commission will not be taken from the driver on any ride. The driver will get the entire earnings of each journey and the profit of the cooperative institution will be distributed directly among the drivers. The Cooperative Ministry says that its objective is to provide relief to drivers from the high commission cuts of private companies and to ensure them better income and security.
Government aims to reduce dependence on private companies
Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah told in Parliament that the aim of Bharat Taxi App is to free millions of commercial vehicle drivers of the country from dependence on private app-based companies. The government believes that a cooperative-led platform can provide more respect, more earnings and more security to drivers.
What will change for passengers
Features like transparent fares, real-time tracking, safe and verified rides, technology-based support and strong customer care are being provided in the app. Special protocols have been prepared for security in collaboration with Delhi Police. Passengers will get an option where the ride money goes directly into the driver’s pocket and they get reliable service.
