The Naxalite terror that has been going on for decades in the dense forests of Chhattisgarh like Bastar and Abujhmad is now taking its last breaths. The powerful campaigns started from 2024 have broken the back of Naxalites. Recently, on 18 November 2025, when a dreaded commander like Hidma was eliminated, Basavaraju had also already been eliminated. Now questions are being raised – how many are left? Which big names are left? What is the final score so far? And when will Union Home Minister Amit Shah arrive? Come, let us understand everything in simple Hindi. This success is the result of the hard work of Chhattisgarh Police, DRG, STF and IG P. Sundarraj.
Final accounts so far: From 2024 to November 2025
Bastar Range IG P. Sundarraj said that from January 2024 to September 2025, 437 Naxalites were killed in Bastar. But by November 2025 this number will have increased to more than 600.
In 2024: 217-239 Naxalites killed (most successful year in Bastar).
In 2025: More than 300 killed, including 224 in Bastar alone.
Total surrender: More than 700 Naxalites returned to the mainstream in 2025.
Arrests: Over 900.
Weapons recovered: 284, including AK-47 and INSAS.
These figures show that the Naxalite organization has broken. Earlier there were 45 big leaders in the Central Committee, now only 15 are left. A total of 1,541 Naxalites were killed from 2001 to 2025, but the period of 2024-25 was the most deadly.
How many Naxalites are left now? Which big ones?
Naxalites are now earning their living by running away. The total number of active Naxalites is around 150, most of whom are small cadres. There are very few big names left, and they too are surrounded. According to IG Sundarraj, only 3-5 major threats remain at the top level:
Narmada Akka: Central Committee Member, Woman Leader, Rs 1 crore reward for this. Holding the command of Bastar Division.
Ganapathy Rao (Misir Besra): Politburo Member, General Secretary. 1 crore reward on this. Active on Chhattisgarh-Odisha border.
Deva Barse: Operational Commander, the most dangerous after Hidma. IED expert. 50 lakh reward on this.
Bapa Rao: Battle Commander, mastermind of many attacks. 40 lakh reward on this.
Dinesh Pandey: Divisional Committee Member, but recently news of surrender.
These are nominally left. The rest like Damodar, Sudhakar, Raju Salam etc. were either killed or surrendered. Naxalites are now divided into small groups, and surrender is increasing.
How was Basavaraju (Basava Raju) killed?
Basavaraju alias Nambala Keshav Rao was the most powerful military leader of CPI (Maoist). He was the chief of the People’s Liberation Guerrilla Army (PLGA), and had a bounty of Rs 2 crore on him. He had planned many major attacks.
On 21 May 2025, a joint team of DRG, STF and Cobra laid siege in the dense forests of Narayanpur district.
28 Naxalites including Basavaraju were killed in the encounter that lasted from morning to evening.
Basavaraju’s body was found along with AK-47, INSAS rifle and grenade launcher. Identification was done through DNA test.
This was the biggest operation of 2025, which shattered the military strength of Naxalites.
The command of the organization disintegrated due to the death of Basavaraju.
How was Hidma killed?
Hidma alias Madvi Hidma was the most dreaded Naxalite of Bastar. This 51-year-old commander was the mastermind of more than 20 attacks, including the 2010 Dantewada attack (76 soldiers martyred). There was a reward of Rs 1 crore on it. On 18 November 2025, Greyhound and CRPF team attacked in Maredumilli forests of Chhattisgarh-Andhra Pradesh border after several days of intelligence surveillance. Hidma, his wife Raje and 4 other Naxalites were killed in the encounter that lasted for hours. A total of 6 bodies were recovered. Hidma’s body was found with a height of 5 feet 5 inches, who had studied till 5th class. Identification was done by weapons and dress. There was a celebration in Sukma after the death, but the Naxalites called it a ‘fake encounter’ and celebrated ‘Resistance Day’ on 23 November. Hidma’s death dealt a huge blow to the Naxal movement. After that, the very next day the news of the death of a general secretary like Devji came.
Two Central Committee members killed together: Raju Dada and Kosa Dada
In September 2025, another big explosion took place in the Abujhmad forests of Narayanpur. 63 year old Raju Dada alias Katta Ramachandra Reddy.67 year old Kosa Dada alias Kadari Satyanarayana Reddy. Both were Central Committee members, and masterminds of many violent incidents. Dozens of soldiers and civilians were killed in their attacks. Both were killed in a single encounter, which was a big shock for the Naxalites.
The architect of this cleanliness campaign: Who is IPS P. Sundarraj?
Bastar’s IG P. Sundarraj is the backbone of this entire massacre. He is an officer of Tamil Nadu born on 27 February 1980, who did B.Sc. Agriculture. After cracking UPSC, he became IPS of Chhattisgarh cadre in 2003 batch. Deployed continuously in Naxal affected districts for last 12-15 years.
Their strategy: precise attacks on intelligence, use of local DRG and constant pressure. Under his leadership, a record number of Naxalites were killed in 2024-25. Interesting fact: Coming to police from agricultural background and fighting with Naxalites was the turning point of his life.
Amit Shah’s final account: When will he visit Chhattisgarh?
Union Home Minister Amit Shah has announced a Naxal-free India by 31 March 2026. He has visited Chhattisgarh many times:
April 2025: Encouraged the soldiers by visiting Maa Danteshwari, held an anti-Naxal meeting.
June 2025: Went to Raipur-Narayanpur on a two-day tour, reviewed security and inaugurated new camps.
Till November 2025: Hidma congratulated the soldiers by tweeting on his death.
