College student Amil Minj, coming from a farmer family of Surguja district of Chhattisgarh, has achieved great success in organic farming of peas by taking up the responsibility of farming along with studies. In this farming done on one acre, Menmat Amil has used only cow dung manure. His family also gives full support in farming. The condition of Amil’s crop is excellent and according to estimates, he is likely to get a production of 50-60 quintals, which is expected to yield a profit of around Rs 4 lakh.
studies and farming carried out simultaneously
Amil’s effort to take both together is an inspiring example for the youth that with hard work and dedication any work can be done easily.
Surguja resident Amil Minj told Local 18 that he started pea cultivation in the last week of October last year. The field was empty, so it was decided to plant peas as an experiment. Today the crop is in vigorous condition, flowers are plentiful and production is looking very good. Amil says that harvesting has not started yet, but will start in the next 2 to 5 days.
Estimate production of 50-60 quintals in 1 acre. Know how…
Amil says that this time the production can reach 50–60 quintals. At present the price of peas is also going well in the markets, hence they are expecting better profits. He has already prepared the estimate for half the crop and has cultivated a total of 1 acre.
Completely organic farming, used 3 to 4 tractor cow dung manure
The most special aspect of farming is that it is completely organic. Amil has not used any kind of chemical fertilizer. During the preparation of the crop, about 3 to 4 tractors of cow dung manure was applied in one acre. Due to this, the quality of the soil improved and the crop also grew stronger.
Balance of studies and farming
Amil is currently a student of B.Sc third semester. He says that the old experience of farming at home and the full support of his family helps him to carry on with both studies and farming. They spend time in the fields in the morning and evening and also provide labor help as per requirement.
irrigation through drip system
A complete drip system has been installed for crop irrigation. Amil explains that as soon as the machine is started, water automatically reaches the plants, due to which neither much effort is required nor water is wasted. Regular watering and care is being done continuously since germination.
Earning 2 to 4 lakhs
Amil says that even in the worst circumstances, the income will be Rs 2 to 3 lakh. If both market rate and production are good then this earning can reach Rs 4 lakh.
Strong support from family boosts morale
Amil says that everyone in the house does farming, so the whole family encourages him to continue both studies and farming. This support gives them the confidence to do farming further on a larger scale.
