Prakash Rana announced in the House that till Himachal Pradesh does not overcome the economic crisis, he will take only Rs 1 out of the salary of lakhs that he gets as an MLA.
As soon as Prakash Rana made this announcement during the discussion on Rule 130, the ruling party and the opposition in the House welcomed this decision by thumping the table. Parliamentary Affairs Minister praised Prakash Rana’s thinking in the House. Prakash Rana is a BJP MLA from Jogindernagar Assembly seat of Mandi district and has reached the House after winning for the second time. Won the first election in 2017 as an independent. He has his own businessmen in Gulf countries.
In an exclusive conversation with News 18 on this announcement, Prakash Rana said that he cannot take salary by taking loan. The state government is running the state by taking loans, in such a situation, salaries cannot be taken from loan money and maximum money should be spent on development works only.

He said that this is his personal decision. Rana said that no Himachali would want to be burdened with debt. Sadan Rana said that nothing will be achieved by blaming each other regarding the economic crisis, everyone will have to work together to get the state out of the economic crisis. It should be noted that before this, when Virbhadra Singh was the Chief Minister, he used to take Re 1 as salary and Vidya Stokes also used to take Re 1 as salary. CPI(M) MLA Rakesh Singha had donated his entire one year’s salary to the CM Relief Fund during Corona.
Government increased salary and allowances of MLAs
It is important that the Sukhu government had increased the salaries and allowances of MLAs this year, this increase happened after 9 years. After the new law, the MLA’s salary has become Rs 85 thousand, before this the MLA used to get Rs 55 thousand, in addition to this salary, the MLA will get a monthly assembly constituency allowance of Rs 1.20 lakh and an office allowance of Rs 90 thousand. The allowance for attending the meeting has been increased from Rs 1800 to Rs 2500. Apart from this, the salaries and allowances of the Chief Minister, Ministers, Legislative Assembly Speaker and Deputy Speaker have also been increased. The taxi travel rate per kilometer for ministers, MLAs, Assembly Speaker and Deputy Speaker has been fixed at Rs 25, which will now increase from Rs 4 lakh to Rs 6 lakh annually. The government has abolished the allowances given for telephone, electricity and water bills. Telephone allowance given to former MLAs has also been abolished.
