India Resumes Tourist Visa For Chinese Citizens: The US side is said to be close to agreeing on a trade deal. It is expected that this will reduce the tariff rates, which will provide great relief to Indian exporters and they will be able to maintain competition in the American market. Meanwhile, India has also emphasized on strengthening relations with other countries as an alternative to America. Especially after the Doklam dispute, steps are being taken towards reducing the bitterness and normalizing relations with China.
Opened tourism doors for China
India has recently opened its tourism doors for Chinese tourists. Now Chinese citizens will be able to apply for tourist visa to India through Indian missions and consulates across the world. In July this year, India resumed issuing tourist visas for Chinese citizens. Earlier in May 2020, this facility was suspended after the military standoff started on the LAC in eastern Ladakh.
News agency PTI quoted sources as saying that earlier this week, the process of issuing tourist visas to Chinese citizens was restarted in Indian embassies and consulates around the world. After this, applications started being received in the Indian Embassy in Beijing and the Consulates of Shanghai, Guangzhou and Hong Kong.
What will be the impact on relationships?
In the last few months, India and China have agreed on several people-centric steps to stabilize relations and bring them back on track. These include starting the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra, resuming direct flights, celebrating the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations and easing visa facilities. Direct flights between the two countries have also resumed in October.
