Kolkata. Suspended Trinamool Congress leader Humayun Kabir on Sunday expressed his desire to form an electoral alliance with All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) after launching his new political party on December 22. He also invited CPI(M), Congress and Naushad Siddiqui’s Indian Secular Front (ISF) to join the alliance to fight against the ruling Trinamool Congress in the state and the BJP at the Centre.
Humayun Kabir said, “I will announce the name of my new party on December 22. My party will form an alliance with Asaduddin Owaisi’s All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen. I have already spoken to Owaisi Sahab on this issue. He has asked me to come to Hyderabad for further talks.”
Humayun Kabir’s statement came a day after laying the foundation stone of Babri Masjid in Beldanga in Murshidabad district. Kabir said, “The alliance with AIMIM has been finalized. I also welcome CPI(M), ISF and Congress so that we can fight together against the BJP at the Center and Mamata Banerjee’s Trinamool Congress in West Bengal. Once the alliance is finalised, we can discuss seat-sharing.”
In the 2021 state assembly elections, the CPI(M)-led Left Front and Congress had formed an electoral alliance with the newly formed Indian Secular Front. However, the performance of the alliance was very poor, with the Left and Congress failing to win even a single seat, while the ISF got only one seat in the 294-seat West Bengal Assembly.
Humayun Kabir’s party has not been launched yet and the Left and Congress have decided to end their alliance in Bengal and contest elections separately. Sources said the CPI(M) has already ruled out any electoral alliance with Kabir’s organization as leaders have claimed that he is nothing but an agent of the BJP.
