Vande Mataram Debate: 150 years of Vande Mataram was discussed in the winter session of Parliament, where NDA accused Congress of insulting Vande Mataram. Imran Masood retaliated and attacked BJP. Congress MP also cornered the Center regarding SIR during the discussion on election reforms.
New Delhi. The winter session of Parliament is going on. During this time, a special discussion is going on on the occasion of completion of 150 years of India’s national song Vande Mataram. The leaders of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) made serious allegations against the Congress of insulting the national anthem, to which the Congress leaders responded.
On the discussion on Vande Mataram and the Prime Minister’s comment that ‘the national anthem has been insulted’, Congress MP Imran Masood said, “Whose national anthem is this? The national anthem was ours; now you are claiming it. The RSS (Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh) was founded in 1925, so why was it not sung till 1947? When people were being beaten for singing the national anthem? Name one of their people who has been beaten or sent to jail.” Why are you trying to fool people?
Regarding the discussion on electoral reforms, the Congress MP said, “This is not electoral reform, but abolishing elections. We are going to debate on abolishing elections and we are fully ready for it.” Congress leader Pappu Yadav rejected the ruling party’s allegations against Congress of insulting Vande Mataram. He said, “What do the people of the ruling party have to do with Vande Mataram and other things like that? They were neither in the freedom struggle, nor did they go to jail nor were they lathicharged. They have no history.”
He further said, “Look at their history. Who murdered Mahatma Gandhi? Who were the people in the Hindu Mahasabha? Who insulted Subhash Chandra Bose? Who had relations with the British? Who used to inform? Who used to give news against the people of India and the freedom fighters? These were the people who used to do such things. They always hated peace and truth. Rabindra Nath Tagore sang Vande Mataram for the first time in the Congress session itself.”
