New Delhi. The investigation into the case of Shankar Mishra, who is accused of urinating on an elderly lady co-passenger in an Air India flight, is going on and is being heard in a Delhi court. Meanwhile, a new twist has come in the case regarding the seat numbers of both the passengers (woman and the accused), which has raised some questions.
In fact, in an interview given to Stuffunknownregarding the alleged urination case, the lawyer of the accused Shankar Mishra had put forth his point regarding the seating arrangement. Now the same seating arrangement has been explained in detail in another report as well, which raises many questions on the credibility of the claims.
Boeing B777-300ER Business Class seating arrangement
A Money Control report mentions the seating plan of the business class of the Boeing B777-300ER aircraft, in which the alleged urination incident took place. The 70-year-old woman was reportedly on window seat 9A. Shankar Mishra’s lawyer had also said this, that Shankar Mishra was sitting in 8C, which is the seat just in front of the lady. Next to Mishra, in window seat 8A, was Sugata Bhattacharjee, an audiologist by profession in the US who narrated the incident.
In 9C, another elderly lady was sitting on the seat next to the complainant. Mishra argued that he could not have urinated near the complainant who was on the window seat (9A), as the seating arrangement was such that he had to pass through the person sitting on the seat (9C) before 9A to reach the victim’s seat. had to cross

It is also to be noted here that none of the passengers present in the business class at the time of the alleged incident has claimed to have seen Mishra urinating on the complainant.
What do aviation experts say
Aviation experts are of the opinion that business class seats are larger and access to window seats would depend on whether the seat in the way was fully reclined or straight. If aisle seat 9C was tilted, it would have been difficult to reach 9A. The report quoted an expert as saying that if 9C was straight, then there would be no problem in going up to 9A.
woman pees on herself
Earlier, on January 13, accused Shankar Mishra made a sudden U-turn and told the court that he had not committed the objectionable act. Along with this, he alleged that it appears that the woman herself had urinated on herself. Mishra’s lawyer made this argument while arguing the Delhi Police’s plea before Additional Sessions Judge Harjyot Singh Bhalla.
The counsel for the accused had said on behalf of Mishra, ‘I am not an accused. There must be someone else. It looks like she (the woman) urinated herself. She was suffering from some kind of prostate related disease which many people associated with Kathak dance seem to be suffering from. It was not him. The seating arrangement was such that no one could go till her (the woman’s) seat. The lawyer said, ‘Her (woman’s) seat could be accessed only from the back, and in any case urine could not reach the front part of the seat. Also, the passenger sitting behind the complainant also did not make any such complaint.
Mishra is accused of urinating on a female co-traveller in an inebriated state on Air India’s New York-New Delhi flight on November 26 last year. On the complaint of the woman, the Delhi Police had registered an FIR against the accused on January 4.
