Traditional start of semi harvest
Ram Vijay tells Local 18 that he planted Semi crop in the month of Ashadh, i.e. during the rainy season. Farming was completely based on old methods, such as applying cowdung fertilizer and taking care of plants in traditional ways.
Plants withered in cold, became green again with fertilizer and irrigation.
According to Ram Vijay, the plants did become a little weak at the beginning of the cold, but after applying fertilizer and irrigation again, the plants started growing well again. Now fruits have also started to appear.
Supported by tableau technology
Ram Vijay tells that at his place “Jhanki” is used to support the plants. Jhanki i.e. thin woods of the bush, like Chhota Dhavra, Sarai, Jam, Sandhwar, these woods are buried in the field to provide support to the semi plants to climb up. This technique has been passed down from their grandfathers and great-grandfathers and they do farming by adopting it.
Who taught this method?
Ram Vijay says that no training was required, “Our grandfathers and great grandfathers used to do this method, we learned it by watching them.
