Agra: The history of Singana village located in Agra, Uttar Pradesh is linked to mythological beliefs. The distance of this village from Agra district headquarters is about 28 kilometers. This village is situated on the banks of river Yamuna and is considered to be the birthplace and holy place of Sage Shringi. According to mythological beliefs, it is believed that Sage Shringi had performed Putreshti Yagya for Maharaj Dasharatha. It was only after this yajna that King Dashrath got sons like Lord Ram, Lakshman, Bharat and Shatrughan.
According to mythology, it is believed that Lord Shri Ram’s sister Shanta was also married to Shringi Rishi, due to which the people of this village consider Lord Ram as their maternal uncle. Presently there is an ashram of Shringi Rishi on the banks of Yamuna near the village, which is an important religious place.
Shringi Rishi Ashram has special significance
Maharaja Nirman Das Maharaj of Shringi Rishi Ashram told Local 18 that it was here that Shringi Rishi Maharaj was born and it was here that he performed rigorous penance. He told that Shringi Rishi Maharaj was married to Shanta, sister of Lord Ram. Once there was a drought near Ayodhya. There was no rain for many years, due to which humans as well as animals started getting troubled.
During that time the kings expressed concern over this issue, then Shringi Rishi Maharaj performed a yagya and it rained heavily. People got life again after the rain. Shringi Rishi Maharaj was a very knowledgeable and ascetic sage. Even today, yagya etc. are performed for children in this ashram. People come here from far away places with their wishes and all their wishes are fulfilled here.
King Dashrath got a son from the sacrifice of Shringi Rishi Maharaj.
The present Chief Sevadar of Shringi Rishi Ashram, Niranjan Das told that Shringi Rishi Maharaj was very knowledgeable and ascetic. When King Dashrath did not get a son, Ratna, he expressed his desire to meet Shringi Rishi. He told that King Dasharatha himself had come here to meet Shringi Rishi Maharaj. He came to know that only Shringi Rishi Maharaj can perform Putreshti Yagya. King Dasharatha took him with him to Ayodhya and this yagya was performed there, after which King Dasharatha was blessed with sons like Lord Ram, Lakshman, Bharat and Shatrughan.
Village people call Lord Ram uncle
The people of village Singana still consider Lord Ram as their maternal uncle. Bhagwan Singh, a villager of the village told that all the people of the village consider Lord Ram as their maternal uncle. He told that the birthplace of Shringi Rishi Maharaj is Singana. Even today his ashram remains here. The villager said that Shringi Rishi Maharaj was married to Shanta, daughter of King Dasharatha. Shanta was the sister of Lord Shri Ram, hence Lord Ram was her maternal uncle, due to which people still call Lord Ram as maternal uncle.
