Gonda: Wheat crop is considered most important in Rabi season because it is a major source of hard work and income of the farmers throughout the year. As important as sowing seeds is in farming, timely irrigation is equally important. Often farmers do sowing carefully, but remain confused about the right time for irrigation. Whereas in the beginning, getting water at the right time strengthens the plants and also has a direct impact on the future yield.
Talking to Local 18, B.Sc Agriculture student Hariom Mishra says that it is very important to know the right time for the first irrigation after sowing. According to him, the first irrigation should be done about 20 to 25 days after sowing of wheat. At this time the plant is in the stage of tillering i.e. removing branches. If water is given at this time, the roots of the plants become stronger and more earrings emerge later.
Why is first irrigation necessary?
Early irrigation strengthens the foundation of the crop. According to Hariom Mishra, if the plants get sufficient moisture in the initial phase, then it becomes easy to decide the time of further irrigation. Due to this, the growth of the plant improves, tillering is good, leaves and stem become stronger and further grain filling becomes easier.
Hariom Mishra explains that the wheat crop requires irrigation a total of 4 to 5 times, but it depends on the soil and weather of the field. He told that the normal timing of irrigation is as follows.
, First irrigation: 20-25 days after sowing.
, Second irrigation: after 40-45 days.
, Third irrigation: On 60-65 days, when earrings start forming.
, Fourth irrigation: On 85-90 days, when it is time to fill the grains. This irrigation is most important because if it is not done on time, it has a direct impact on the production.
, Fifth irrigation: Done as per need. If the weather is dry then irrigate, but if there is sufficient moisture or it has rained then it can be avoided.

In which season is water necessary?
Hariom Mishra said that cold wind and dry weather affects the wheat crop. At such times, watering becomes very important. If it rains, irrigation should be stopped for a few days so that the crop does not get spoiled due to excessive moisture in the field.
Good moisture will increase yield
If the first two irrigations of wheat are done at the right time, then the growth of the crop is much better. Plants become stronger, the number of ears increases and the grains are plentiful. Therefore, farmer brothers should not take the first irrigation lightly, because this is the first step towards doubling the wheat yield.
