Strong forest protection: To protect the forests from fire in Chamoli district, the permanent fire line system is being revived once again. This system, which was closed since the 80s due to the ban of the Supreme Court, has now started again after the permission of the Central Government. Its objective is to protect villages, forests and wildlife from forest fires.
Chamoli: In Chamoli, Uttarakhand, the permanent fire line system was stopped after the Supreme Court banned the felling of green trees in the 80s. Due to this, the old system of forest fire control was completely destroyed. Now after getting permission from the Central Government, this important system is being implemented again, which will strengthen the forest security.
20 kilometer long fire line in the first phase
In the first phase, a 20 kilometer long and 20 meter wide fire line is being built in Gairsain, Gopeshwar and Gauchar ranges of Kedarnath Wildlife Division. This fire line will act as a protective shield between the forests. Its purpose is to limit the fire to one area, so that it cannot spread rapidly.
5184 green trees are being cut
For the construction of fire line, 5184 green trees coming in the way are being cut. Most of these trees are of pine species. The responsibility of this work has been handed over to the Forest Corporation. The department says that this felling is being done in a controlled and planned manner, so that there is minimal damage to the environment.
Old fire lines had turned into dense forests.
According to Divisional Forest Officer Sarvesh Kumar Dubey, due to old forest acts and lack of maintenance for years, the already built fire lines had turned into dense forests. Due to this, control in case of fire became very difficult. Fire spread rapidly in the forests and there was no effective way to stop it.
Cleaning will be done before the forest fire season
Under the new action plan, dry leaves, grass and other flammable materials will be cleared from the fire lines before the start of the fire season. With this, the fire originating from the villages can be stopped before it enters the forest. This system will play an important role in the protection of wildlife and biodiversity.
Both village and wildlife will get protective cover
The construction of fire lines will also provide great relief to the villages situated around the forests. In case of fire, this line will act as a wall between the village and the dense forest area. This will not only protect human life and property, but will also protect wild animals from falling prey to fire.
