Railways has shown great heart amid Indigo flight cancellation. RCTC officials of Railways have deployed their staff at IGI Airport in Ahmedabad and Delhi, who are helping in sending the troubled passengers by train due to cancellation of flights. Railway officials posted at Delhi Airport said that they are helping in sending the passengers going to Rajasthan, Haryana and Punjab by train.
IndiGo Crisis: A unique sight was seen today in Terminal-2 of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport. The entire helpdesk of Indian Railways is located right next to the refund counter of Indigo. IRCTC officers in white shirts and pants are sitting with laptops and printers. It is written in big letters on the board – ‘Western Railway welcomes you.’ This is not an ordinary day. Hundreds of passengers are still stranded in IndiGo’s crisis for the fifth consecutive day. Those who had plans to go to Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru or Hyderabad have been sitting at the airport for hours. But now there is some relief on their faces, because Railways has jumped into the field.
A senior IRCTC official said, ‘We have placed our desk very near the IndiGo counter so that a passenger whose flight has been canceled can walk two steps and come to us. We are booking Tatkal tickets, be it Tatkal quota or special trains. Till today evening, two special trains are being run from Ahmedabad to Delhi. One is Swarn Jayanti Express Special and the other is Ahmedabad-New Delhi Special. Seats are available in both.
Western Railway officials say that this is the first time that such a big helpdesk of the Railways has been set up inside an airport. ‘The passengers felt that the government did not leave them alone. This is the message we wanted to give. Amidst the Indigo crisis, this step of Railways is proving to be a lifesaver for lakhs of passengers. The most spoken sentence at the airport today was – ‘Come on, at least there is a train!’. IRCTC officials posted at IGI Airport said that even today two special trains are being run to go to Delhi. With this, passengers going to the nearby states of Delhi-NCR like Haryana, Punjab, Rajasthan will get an immediate option.
