Kashmir means the upper part of India. Kanyakumari means the last end of India. There is a distance of 3500 kilometers between the two. It takes several hours to cover this journey by train. But what if we tell you that this journey can be completed in even ten minutes?
The speed of Agni-5, India’s most advanced and long-range missile, is so fast that it can complete the journey from Kashmir to Kanyakumari in just 10 to 12 minutes. Yes, you read it right! Kashmir means the uppermost tip of India and Kanyakumari is the southernmost tip. There is a distance of about 3500 to 3700 kilometers between the two.
It takes more than 70 hours to cover this distance by train, like Himsagar Express takes about 73 hours to reach from Jammu to Kanyakumari. This journey by plane takes 4-5 hours, whereas even at the top speed of a fighter jet like Sukhoi SU-30MKI, it will take one and a half hours. This journey is completed in about 50 minutes by BrahMos supersonic cruise missile. But Agni-5? In just 10 minutes.

Agni-5 is an Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM), whose official range is more than 5000 kilometers, while in some reports it is said to be up to 8000 kilometers. It is a three-stage solid fuel missile, which is road mobile and canister launched. Its biggest feature is its terminal speed. At this speed no enemy defense system can stop it. This missile is capable of carrying a nuclear warhead and in recent tests, MIRV (Multiple Independently Targetable Re-entry Vehicle) technology has been successfully tested. Meaning, different nuclear warheads can be delivered to many different targets from one missile. It strengthens India’s ‘Credible Minimum Deterrence’ policy and maintains strategic balance with its ‘No First Use’ commitment.
