An Afghan national has admitted raping a 12-year-old girl in Nuneaton.
Ahmad Mulakhil, 23, changed his plea from not guilty to guilty to one count of rape of a child under 13 on July 22.
Mulakhil, who has no fixed address, previously denied kidnapping a child, three counts of rape of a child under 13 and two counts of sexual assault of a child under 13 at a hearing in August.
He appeared at Warwick Crown Court on Friday alongside co-accused Mohammad Kabir, also 23.
Kabir, of no fixed address, denied attempting to kidnap a child, being an accessory to the rape of a child under 13 and intentionally strangling the girl.
The defendants, who Warwickshire Police had previously confirmed were Afghan nationals, were assisted by interpreters during the hearing before Judge Kristina Montgomery KC.
Kabir spoke only to confirm his name, while Mulakhil confirmed his name and pleaded guilty when he was re-indicted on a rape charge.
The allegations against the two men sparked protests outside Nuneaton Town Hall on August 9, when St George’s Cross and Union flags were raised as protesters marched down the main street, chanting “stop the boats” and “we want our country back”.
Stand Up to Racism counter-protesters were significantly outnumbered outside Nuneaton and Bedworth Council offices.
