Traders of Kashmir are specially importing them from Afghanistan and selling them in Jamshedpur and with the onset of winter, their demand has increased rapidly.
This time people’s preferences seem to be changing. While the sales of almonds, cashews and pistachios are usually high every year, this time customers are getting more attracted towards the different and good quality dry fruits of Afghanistan.

The freshness, large size and natural sweetness of the Afghan dry fruits available at this stall have impressed people a lot. Prominent among these are – Afghani Mamera almonds whose price is around ₹ 2400 per kg. It is big in size, sweet in taste and very crunchy which is considered very beneficial in increasing weight and giving strength.
Afghani black raisins have also become a special choice this year, whose price is ₹ 1200-1400 per kg. It is coarse grained, full of natural sweetness and is considered a good source of iron.

Apart from this, Afghani figs (₹ 1000–1500 per kg), which is known for its natural sweetness and enhancing digestion power, are being sold in abundance. The price of Afghan pine nuts (chilgoza) ranges from ₹ 4000–6000 per kg, yet people are liking it as a special dry fruit of winter. Besides, Afghani Munnaka (₹500-600 per kg) and Afghani Gufayati Almonds (₹1200 per kg) are also being liked by the customers.

Director Nisar Ahmed says that the biggest specialty of Afghanistan’s dry fruits is that they are naturally dry and fresh, without any adulteration. Traders of Kashmir are importing them directly from Afghanistan and making them available in the local market. This is the reason why their quality is much better than the dry fruits available in ordinary markets.

Customers told that this winter they are preferring the delicious dry fruits of Afghanistan instead of common cashew nuts and almonds. Besides their nutritional value, the taste is also different and good. Many people are buying it by the kilo for home, while many customers are also trying new dry fruits out of curiosity.
