Pithoragarh: Consumers have the right to get things that are safe and as per standards. Keeping this in mind, recently the Food Safety Department in Pithoragarh took an important step regarding Patanjali’s ghee.
Actually, Patanjali was fined for not getting ghee as per the standards. In Pithoragarh, in 2020, the Food Safety Department had taken a sample of Patanjali’s ghee for testing. The sample did not pass the first test. After this the company sent the sample for re-testing, but even in the second test the ghee was not found to be as per the standards. After this the case was registered in the court.
After which the court imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh on the producing company Patanjali, Rs 25 thousand on the supplier and Rs 15 thousand on the seller of the shop from where the sample was taken.
Sample taken from Patanjali store
According to the case, in October 2020, senior food safety officer Dilip Jain took a sample of Patanjali’s ghee from Karan General Store in Kasni. Its investigation was done in the government laboratory of Rudrapur. During testing, the sample did not meet the standards and adulteration was found in it.
The decision on this came last Thursday. The court of Additional District Magistrate Yogendra Singh gave the verdict after hearing all the parties and seeing the evidence. The court imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh on the manufacturing company Patanjali, Rs 25 thousand on the supplier Brahma Accessories, Dharchula Road, Pithoragarh and Rs 15 thousand on the seller Karan General Store.
The Food Safety Department said that this step is important for consumers. Officials warned that if in future any company or shopkeeper sells items contrary to the standards, strict action will be taken.
