Khargon. In earlier times, people used to fall ill less. There was strength in the body, immunity was strong and people also looked more healthy mentally. In today’s fast-paced life, the situation has become completely opposite. At an early age, people are struggling with problems like diabetes, BP, stomach disease, joint pain and stress. Especially in the winter season, cold, cough, fever and skin related problems increase rapidly. According to experts, the biggest reason for this is disturbed daily routine. Dr. Santosh Maurya, an Ayurveda expert from Khargone, Madhya Pradesh, tells Local 18 that it is very important to adopt the daily routine prescribed in Ayurveda Shastra for a healthy life. From waking up in the morning till sleeping at night, when to eat, how much to sleep and how to take care of the body, all this has already been told in our scriptures. If a person follows these rules in winter, then even the biggest diseases can be avoided.
What time did you get up in the morning?
According to Dr. Maurya, the best time to wake up is considered to be Brahma Muhurta i.e. 4 to 4:30 in the morning but in any case one should leave the bed before sunrise. After doing moral activities as soon as you wake up in the morning, doing light exercise, yoga and pranayama when the sun comes out is very beneficial in winter. This maintains warmth in the body and strengthens the immune system.
What is your morning routine like?
Lukewarm water should be used in winter season. In Ayurveda, massage with sesame or mustard oil before bathing has been said to be very beneficial. This provides relief from joint pain, dryness of skin and fatigue. Taking a bath with lukewarm water after massage makes the body feel refreshed. Breakfast should be taken between 8 to 9 o’clock. In winter, warm and nutritious food like porridge, milk, ghee roti, moong dal cheela, poha, upma are beneficial. Also including dry fruits like almonds, walnuts and raisins provides plenty of energy to the body.
How should be your lunch and dinner?
It is considered most appropriate to have lunch between 12 and 1 o’clock. According to Ayurveda, the digestive fire is strongest at this time. Eat only home cooked food for lunch. Include roti, rice, pulses, seasonal vegetables, ghee and buttermilk in your diet. Roti made of millet, jowar and maize makes the body strong from within in winter. Light breakfast can be taken between 4 to 5 pm in the evening. Dinner should always be light and on time and it is best to have dinner between 6 to 7 pm.
What time should you sleep at night?
Dr. Santosh Maurya says that 7 to 8 hours of sleep is sufficient for a normal person, hence one should sleep before 10 pm. The habit of watching mobile or TV till late night makes the body weak in winter. They believe that adopting this Ayurvedic routine regularly brings positive energy into the body. Stomach related diseases gradually start disappearing. It also provides relief from irritability, mental stress, fatigue and lethargy.
