This ritual is considered very important from religious, cultural and historical point of view.

The auspicious time for hoisting the flag has been kept from 11:52 am to 12:35 pm. This time of 32 minutes corresponds to Abhijit Muhurta, which is associated with the birth constellation of Lord Shri Ram and is considered a very sacred yoga. The decision to hoist the flag in this Muhurta has been taken according to tradition, astrology and religious beliefs.
The flag hoisted on the top of the temple is very special. This flag is 22 feet long and 11 feet wide, which has been designed keeping in mind the 161 feet high spire and 42 feet high flagpole of the temple. A shining sun, Kovidara tree and ‘Om’ are inscribed on the flag. These symbols represent the brilliance, bravery, compassion, justice and ideals of Ram Rajya of Lord Shri Ram. This form of the flag further enhances the spiritual dignity of the temple.
Before the flag hoisting, preparations are in full swing in the temple premises since morning. As the sunlight fell on the huge peak and pillars standing amidst the fog, the temple started looking even more divine. The temple complex is decorated with attractive flowers, lights and traditional ornaments. The security arrangements are also very strict and thousands of devotees are reaching Ayodhya to witness this historical moment.
Today is a very important day not only for Ayodhya but for the entire country. The hoisting of the saffron flag on the peak of Ram temple will be a symbol of the spirituality, tradition and pride for which crores of devotees have waited for years.
