Newsweek reports this story is from Justin B. Ki, who has requested that his full name not be made public. Justin has been shopping at thrift stores for the last 10 years. Experience matters a lot for them in this kind of shopping. “It’s a process of slowly learning what to pay attention to,” he told Newsweek.

Justin found a makeup mirror
Justin has not disclosed the name of the Goodwill store he frequents in Pennsylvania. When he went to that store recently, everyone was shocked to see what he found. He bought an old makeup mirror. The day he bought it, he was not looking for anything specific but there was something in that mirror that caught his attention. Justin explains, “It was a green case, with a golden lining inside and some letters engraved on the top. From the outside, it did not look very special, but out of curiosity, I took it out of the glass display case and took a closer look.”

That mirror was lying in the shop for a long time and dust had accumulated on it. Its original price was kept at 20 dollars, but due to it not being sold for a long time, it was sold at a 50 percent discount for only 10 dollars. However, Justin felt that this was no ordinary thing. He said, “Its packaging looked premium. The carving on the top was very intricate and its weight was also not like the light products available today. It had a solidity to it.” His doubt turned into belief when he opened the case and saw. The word ‘Sterling’ was engraved inside. This was an indication that the case was made of sterling silver, a precious metal. Justin said, “I often look for silver items in thrift stores. As soon as I saw the hallmark of sterling on the hinge, I knew this was a special deal.” After this Justin immediately bought that makeup mirror. After reaching home, he did online research and found that a similar mirror was being sold on eBay for $180. Justin believes that the price of the mirror he has could be even more than this. He says, “It is difficult to determine the price of precious metal items, especially when the prices of silver are continuously increasing.” At present, Justin wants to keep this mirror with himself instead of selling it.
